Review Tour - - Shattered Trust by Lynda Bailey

Synopsis

Learning to love is the easy part…

As a young woman, Kate Landry trusted the wrong man, and she paid dearly for her naiveté. Alone, pregnant and destitute, she survived by the sheer force of her will. Now forty-two, Kate has made a good living for herself and her daughter as the owner of the Bluebird Saloon. But she’s forgotten how to live. That is until he comes into her bar…

Liam St. James loved a girl once. And only once. After an accident paralyzed her, she didn’t trust he would continue to love her. Brokenhearted, Liam left and soon discovered a world where women did trust him—to be their sexual Dominant. He plays out the scenes masterfully, but the unexpected request from the stoic bar owner will pose his greatest challenge yet…

Kate and Liam embark on a journey to uncover repressed urges and, in the process, they discover new desires. They also fall in love with one another. But when you’ve been shattered as badly as they have by mistrust, deceit and abuse, loving is easy. Trusting is harder, if not impossible, especially when the heart is involved…

Shattered Trust is a BDSM romance. It contains explicit language and graphic love scenes, including bondage, domination, spanking, whipping and multiple partners. It is intended for mature readers only.

4 Stars

Shattered Trust by Lynda Bailey couldn't have a more fitting title!  Kate grew up with a father who put everyone elses needs before her own.  Once she got a small taste of freedom, Kate ended up putting her life in the hands of a man who treated her as though she was an object to be used for his needs and the needs of others, with zero regard to her free will.  Once she broke free, Kate found herself alone and pregnant.  With no where to turn she returned to her family home only to be turned away by the one person that is always supposed to be there to support you, especially in your time of need.

Fast forward 20 years... Kate owns a bar in the small town of Trustworthy, Texas.  (Lynda could not have found a better named town for the setting of this book!!!)  She has a daughter, Sedona, but besides her she has distanced her self, both physically and emotionally from everyone else.  That is until Liam St. James enters her subdued life.

Liam is running for a past that still tortures his heart.  He is always on the move, never staying in once place long enough to make a connection with anyone.  It is his defense mechanism.  He find himself low on funds so he takes a job in a bar that is owned by none other than Kate.  At first she is completely against Liam even working for her but the sparks start to fly and they both realize they both need each other if they ever have any hope in recovering what was stripped from them all those years ago.

Oh Lynda... At first glance I had a hard time with this book.  It could have been the age difference or Kate's attitude that made it hard for me to connect with the book but as I pressed on I slowly began to fall in love with not only Liam but Kate too!  Lynda's writing style was so detailed and so smooth that getting lost in Trustworthy was so easy.  Reading Kate's past was so heartbreaking.  No woman should ever suffer at the hands of a man (or men) and especially not at the hands (or in this case mouth) of their father.  I wanted to reach out and hold Kate as she relived her flashbacks.  But watching her grow as a person and shed the doubts and gain a new prospective of self esteem and life was truly beautiful.  The sex (err, play?) scenes were extremely erotic and so stinking hott that I may have even been a bit jealous of Kate (sorry not sorry).  And the change in Liam was also wonderful to read.  I was really worried that they would miss the connection they had outside the bedroom and lose what was so very obviously, a once in a life time love.

The plot, the characters, the love & the sex made this book a 4 star read.  Lynda made sure that no detail was left out and every character played an important role in the story, even if it was small.  I am excited to see who book 2 will be about and I have already added it to my wish list on amazon!

I’ve always loved stories.  Especially love stories.  Growing up in the Midwest, I’d make up stories to my favorite TV shows – usually westerns.

As I got older, the stories didn’t relent.  In fact, they only got stronger, the characters more insistent, until I had no choice but to put it all on paper.  It’s become an obsession for me.  One that I love.

When not sitting at my computer, I spend my time working as a substitute teacher and fitness instructor.  Guess you could say I’m an equal opportunity “persuader” of the young and, ahem, not so young.
