We have been so lucky to get to know the very talented Megan D. Martin, author of the Rapture Trilogy and most recently the Filthy Serial and many more, over the past few months and we think she is just AMAZING! Jaymee and I both think that you all should get to know her a little better, too!! We bombarded her with some questions so you can get a better look into who exactly Megan is and where some of her crazy ideas come from!! We hope you enjoy her as much as we do!!
1. When did you know you wanted to become a writer? and is it your main job or more of a hobby? (sorry two questions in one!!)
I didn't really know until I was eighteen. I read the book A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole and it changed the way I felt about it books. I'd always loved reading, but that was the first book that I felt was perfect. She had me hanging on every word and I know it's because the hero was an alpha-controlling hero, hahahaha. It made me realize that I wanted to read more books like it--and when I didn't find any right away, I decided to try and write my own. I also freelance edit for other indie authors and small publishers as well as write. I'm also a full time college student in the fall and spring.
2. Do you have any quirks as far as writing goes? Something that you must have or a certain place you must be to write? (Snack, music, silence, etc?)
This is going to sound so lame, but I really don't have a lot of quirks when it comes to writing. It just depends. Sometimes I want music, sometimes I don't. A lot of the time I write sitting on the couch next to my son who's watching Pokémon, LOL. I do like writing at home though. I have trouble focusing if I write in public. I'm a people watcher, lol, so I get easily distracted.
Something funny though, I actually write the last chapter of Clinging to Rapture while listening to Life of the Party by Shawn Mendes on repeat. That song literally has nothing to at all to do with the book or how it ended, but for some reason I was just really feeling it at the time.
3. What is you favorite genre/author/book? (you don't have to answer all three, but you totally can!!)
Oh gosh. This question is SO hard! There are so many great authors out there. I have to say Kresley Cole is my favorite author, just because she was the first one who inspired me to write, but I honestly don't pick up her books as much anymore--plus I'm not as into paranormal romance as I used to be. For now, I have to say my favorite genre is Dark erotic romance. I really love damaged characters. Kenya Wright is probably my favorite author of the dark and complicated stuff. I really really love her book An Arrangement of Love. It is SO good. Oh my goodness, I've read a ton of times.
4. Please tell us where the plot for the Rapture books came from?
I'm going to be totally honest and you're going to laugh, are you ready?
I got a simple idea for the books from a porno I watched. Yes, go ahead and blush! ;) It was just a short clip of two people at a fancy party having sex on a couch while all of these men and women stood around and chatted. Some watched, some were indifferent. And that was the little seed that gave me the idea.
5. OK so Cole is probably one of the best book boyfriends we have had in a long time.... Is he based off of someone you know? Where did you come up with such a magnificent creature??
Hehe, ohhh Cole! I love writing about him so so much. He is not based on a specific person. I just really love the idea of a magnificent damaged man obsessed with a woman he can't have. I like to play around with ideas and see how far I can have him go. And trust me in book three things get crazier!!! ;)
BONUS!! If you could write yourself into one book which one would it be and why?
Hmmm. This is a really hard question. I think I would write myself into An Arrangement of Love by Kenya Wright. I would kick Jasmine out of the way and take Chase for my own!
